Moving a chandelier

Chandeliers can be very tricky items to move safely whilst minimising the potential for damage to occur, so make sure you seek the help of a licensed electrician to disconnect and take down your chandelier. Once it is down, wrap up the wires and electrical cabling and bind them together with tape, elastic bands or plastic ties. Take out the lightbulbs and, if you have them, store them in the original boxes. If not, wrap them in bubble wrap and pack into a small box.

Now is a good time to give the chandelier a clean. Use either a water/vinegar solution or any supermarket cleaning products to remove dust from the crystals, then wipe them down with a lint-free cloth and wrap each one in tissue paper or bubble wrap.

Make sure your packing box is a good few inches larger than the diameter of the chandelier, and fill the bottom with polystyrene packing pieces or air-filled pockets to cushion the chandelier. Gently place it into the box and fill the free space with polystyrene, making sure there is a layer on top as well.

Seal the box up securely with packing tape and make sure you label it clearly as 'FRAGILE'.
