Your guide to storage with SA Movers

Can I access my goods once in store?

You can have access to your effects once they are in store with SA Movers; just contact your Move Manager to arrange a suitable date to access your goods.

If you are storing with SA Movers Self Store, you have full access to your storage unit six days a week.

In case of a fire

It is extremely rare for fires to occur, but nonetheless the unexpected can happen. To minimise the chance of fire we ensure that the following items are not permitted on site:

  • Combustible or flammable materials e.g. gas bottles (including empty bottles), aerosol cans, paints, petrol, oil or cleaning solvents.
  • Pollutants, toxic waste or contaminated goods e.g. asbestos and batteries.
  • Any items emitting any fumes, odour or smell e.g. tyres and perfumed goods.
  • Firearms, weapons, ammunitions or explosives, including fireworks.

Fire Insurance can be purchased to increase the level of cover provided for your goods - ask your storage provider about the policies offered.

Is there a minimum charge for storage?

Storage is charged on a monthly basis, with the cost calculated on the volume of your goods. This monthly fee is the minimum charge for storage, and will not change without prior notice.

What's the difference between storage and self storage?

Storage is commonly where goods and personal effects are loaded into containers or wooden pallets and kept in a secure warehouse, usually for longer periods.

Companies offering long-term storage often provide specialist packing services to ensure your items are protected prior to going into storage. The container should be sealed in your home for security purposes, and transported to the storage centre for you.

Self storage is slightly more flexible and ideal for shorter-term storage needs. It's commonly used when moving home, clearing space, redecorating or extending homes. Self storage is commonly offered in units of varying sizes, with a scale of costs according to the size of unit you require. Access can be granted at any time, and delivery of goods can either be handled by the customer or by the storage company.

Storage insurance

If you are moving and have transit insurance and want to arrange for some items to go into storage facilities, consider taking additional fire insurance to cover your goods while in store. Your transit insurance will cover your goods from when they come out of storage to the final delivery.

If you elect not to purchase transit insurance then you can acquire fire insurance only for your goods while they are in store.
